On the Road - Part II
When I last wrote about transportation, I gave an overview of what we have available in our Aurora-Denver Metro Region. With the steady and constant increase price and cost of petroleum products, from oil to natural gas to propane, every aspect of our lives is being injured. From the transportation side, if it moves, heats, or lights it costs more and more, and it comes right out of each one of our wallets. We are in the beginning of the powered transportation revolution. Unfortunately, it means we are also in the period where many experiments in power and how to use it are happening. The ill advised ethanol mandate from the president is a great example of how government interfering in research causes all sorts of problems.
The biggest question I keep having is what can Aurora do for the next generation of powered vehicles. It is a tough question once stop looking at the physical things we do have such as buildings and land. What we do not have is a built in bias as to the direction to move. We have a resource that most people would not consider when talking about making a car or truck. Aerospace engineers, and lots of them live here and in the Aurora-Denver Metro region. You cannot come up with people more adapt at designing light and efficient things. And, using exotic “stuff” to make them move, heat or just survive in space. Transferring these skills to something mass produced and cheap will be the difficulty. But, this is something we can look at when promoting Aurora as a transportation research city. There is an immediate impact we can have on transportation and cost within Aurora. Build on our reputation as a great place to bike. That will be my next diary.
